Rumor has it that there will be no new Call of Duty next year

We can take some things for granted in the world of video games, especially, when it's about certain franchises that get a new installment on a yearly basis. Call of Duty is one of those, but that may change next year. Several reports are pointing out that there won't be a new Call of Duty in 2023. Activision would be focusing on releasing additional content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 instead. Not only this would be a first in the franchise, but it would significantly affect the usual post-launch roadmap for the game.

Several reports claim that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would be getting a premium campaign DLC in 2023. Although it's definitely a bit too early to be talking about post-launch content, such type of expansion would demonstrate Activision's commitment to change its ways with the franchise. Not only the new Call of Duty would bring back an iconic team like Task Force 141, but its story would also gain a lot of relevance in the game. If this happens, it does not necessarily mean that multiplayer will be left aside. There are also rumors about a content pack that would be including many fan-favorite multiplayer maps that would be released for the 20th anniversary of the series.

If we leave speculation and leaks aside, the only truth so far is that the level of anticipation for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is quite high. We won't have to wait much longer to see if it's as good as those who have played the beta say. Of course, Activision has not confirmed any of the rumors yet, but we are sure that post-launch content will be the main theme soon after the October 28th release.
