Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance demo now available on PlayStation and Steam

Atlus has revealed a free demo of the demon-filled RPG Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, now available on PlayStation and Steam. In this demo, players can choose between two narrative paths: the all-new Canon of Vengeance storyline or the original Shin Megami Tensei V story, Canon of Creation. Explore a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, now transformed into a wasteland known as Da’at, torn apart by the conflict between angels and demons.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is the definitive version of the acclaimed RPG, introducing a fresh storyline, new characters, a new area and dungeon to explore, more accessible gameplay, an enhanced battle system, and new demon-related experiences. The game is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows.

All progress made in the demo can be carried over to the full game, allowing players to pick up their journey right where they left off. Both narrative paths are available to explore for those wanting to dive deeper into each story. The demo’s release coincides with a free update rolled out earlier in November across all platforms, which includes:

  • New demon: Kishin Marici
  • Fan-selected Demon Navigators: Hell Biker, Idun, Fionn mac Cumhail, Mothman, Mara, and Cleopatra
  • New Elite difficulty for the Virtual Trainer mode

This RPG is just one of many blockbuster releases from Atlus and its parent company, SEGA, in 2024, a year in which the developer has also shattered sales records. Earlier this year, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, from SEGA subsidiary Ryu Ga Gotoku, sold 1 million units in just one week. Persona 3 Reload followed shortly after, smashing records with 1 million sales in just three days. The headliner Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is nearing 2 million units sold, while the tactical RPG Unicorn Overlord, developed by Vanillaware and published by Atlus, also crossed the 1 million mark.

Most recently, Metaphor: ReFantazio launched to critical and commercial acclaim, with many hailing it as a strong contender for Game of the Year 2024. The game sold 1 million units on its release day and received stellar reviews from both critics and players. These titles have exceeded Atlus’ expectations, proving the Japanese studio knows how to deliver with its RPG lineup.

So, there are plenty of reasons to trust Atlus. If you’ve always wanted to immerse yourself in the Shin Megami Tensei franchise but hesitated to commit, this demo is your perfect entry point.
