Skull and Bones changes into multiplayer experience

It's been a long while since we heard about Skull & Bones for the first time. Ubisoft has not revealed much about the upcoming pirate-themed game in the past, and its development has been an enigma for a long while. In fact, the developer completely changed the game last year, and instead of being a primarily single-player experience focused on exploration and adventure, Skull & Bones is now meant to follow a "live service" business model. The game would feature a persistent world that would evolve depending on players' actions, turning into a completely different experience than it was originally intended.

During Ubisoft's latest financial call last Thursday, CFO Frédérick Duguet commented on Skull & Bones, revealing some additional information about the game, which now seems to have a deep focus on multiplayer.

"It's a very promising new IP focussing on multiplayer first, so very consistent with our strategy to bring multiplayer competition and co-op first in a big open world, with a great, attractive fantasy."

"That's of course a longer development time that we've had on that game, but we're very happy with the artistic direction and the progress of the game so far."

Skull & Bones would be a completely different game then, but there are many details to be revealed about the game yet. We don't really know how it will compare to Sea of Thieves, which is the most popular pirate-themed video game right now.

With no release date on the horizon, it seems that Ubisoft is not ready to reveal much about Skull & Bones, but at least we know that the game is still in development. It would be nice if the French company also commented on Beyond Good and Evil 2, another game that has disappeared from the radar since it was announced. You can rest assured that both of them will be available on our comparator at the same time ahead of release.
