The day many fans of the roguelike genre were waiting for has finally arrived. Developer Mega Crit has officially announced the sequel to its incredibly popular roguelike deckbuilder game Slay the Spire. Although Slay the Spire 2 is still in the early stages of development, the announcement has been received with joy by a huge legion of fans who love the first game. Its addictive gameplay mechanics, strategic gameplay, and endless replayability have turned the original Slay the Spire into a must-have for anyone who enjoys the genre and the popularity of the game has grown exponentially since it was released in 2019.
Slay the Spire 2 will feature a plethora of novelties when it comes to gameplay mechanics, characters to play, and cards to unlock as you progress through the procedurally generated map that represents the different levels of the Spire. Mega Crit promises new archetypes, each with a set of unique cards and abilities that favour a completely new gameplay style.
"The Spire isn't what it used to be. New enemies, events, and treasures await as the rooms and items you discover change each time you play... Try risky builds or play it safe as you explore countless different strategies, find yourself in peculiar scenarios, and confront the Bosses of each Act."
Perhaps, the most interesting novelty about Slay the Spire 2 is its graphics engine. The game ditches its previous engine in favour of the open-source engine Godot, mainly due to the disagreement with the latest policies set in place for the Unity engine. The decision has not been easy as the game was already two years into development when the change was decided.
"Slay the Spire 2 was completely rewritten from the ground up in a new game engine! We're bringing in modern features, incorporating all-new visuals, and expanding moddability."
Slay the Spire 2 will be released in Early Access sometime next year and our comparator will have the best deals to pre-order Slay the Spire 2 ready for you by then. Meanwhile, we highly recommend you try the first Slay the Spire for an exciting roguelike experience if you are into deck-building games.
