Announced in 2017, Smalland is a video game originally developed by Embu Games that will undoubtedly remind you of another game released recently. After many changes, it is now Merge Games which is in charge of Smalland development, and we have gotten some news about it during the Future Games Show.
It's quite possible that you've never heard of Smalland but it's also quite sure that you have heard of Grounded, and it is almost impossible not to compare them. Smalland is a survival game in which you play as a character with the size of an insect. Faced with these similarities, some do not hesitate to speak of plagiarism, but without needing to go that far, it is not excluded that Smalland would have inspired the developers of Grounded.
However, just because the two games offer a similar basic premise, it doesn't mean that they're the same. Smalland, slated for release next year on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, will feature a co-op survival adventure. The basics of survival, such as crafting, combat, and customization, will be in the game. As we can see in the video revealed during the Future Games show, the game will even have mounts, like the grasshopper or the mouse. On top of that, Smalland will allow you to create sorts of alliances with the animals and insects around you, and it would even include some role-playing mechanics.
There is still a lot to discover about Smalland, and while Grounded is extremely popular, the game from Merge Games will undoubtedly find its place, especially knowing that it will be available on PS4 and Nintendo Switch, unlike its counterpart.
