Star Ocean: The Divine Force introduces Midas and Nina

Publisher Square Enix and developer tri-Ace have released a new pair of character trailers for Star Ocean: The Divine Force featuring Midas Felgreed and Nina Deforges. Here are Square Enix's descriptions of each character:

  • Midas Felgreed: Midas Felgreed is one of the most brilliant semiomancers and engineers in all of the Aucerian Kingdom. Although his thirst for knowledge often sees him forego laws and basic ethics, Midas is still a man of strong principle who always finishes what he starts.

According to the description, Midas is a semi-Mancer, i.e., a mage with destructive abilities, a well-known trope in the series. It will be interesting to see his background as an engineer as he witnesses the technological wonders Raymond´s world has to offer.

  • Nina Deforges: Nina Deforges is one of the few people on Aucerius who can use healing magic known as iatrimancy. She is tirelessly dedicated to creating a cure for the deadly disease that took her father's life.

For now, she seems like the typical helpless healer character who will die numerous times in battle, given the incompetence of the AI, but we hope we are wrong. Nina is the sixth character introduced, but if the game follows the models of older Star Oceans, as it seems The Divine Force is doing, we can expect some optional secret characters throughout the plot.

All Star Ocean: The Divine Force characters introduced

The first character trailers introduced Raymond Lawrence and Laeticia Aucerius, the two protagonists of the new installment. The sixth game follows a similar model to Star Ocean: The Second Story, which allows players to choose Claude, a protagonist relating to the sci-fi world, and Rena, a resident of the underdeveloped planet with a fantasy setting.

Albaird Bergholm and Elena have also had their introduction trailer. They are companions to Laeticia and Raymond, respectively. Players' initial choice of the protagonist will probably change the development of their arcs. Hopefully, The Divine Force will be less convoluted than Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness and more iconic like the classic entries in the saga.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on October 27 worldwide.
