Star Wars Outlaws reveals release date in new story trailer

Ubisoft thrilled fans by announcing they would release a story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws, as many were confident the preview would also bring a release date. And they were not wrong because, at the end of the video, it was revealed that Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30th. Those who pre-order will get three days of early access to the game.

Interestingly, the release date had been inadvertently revealed by Ubisoft itself. On Ubisoft Japan's YouTube channel, the video description discreetly announced that the game would be available on August 30th, a few hours before the grand debut of the story trailer. The confirmation swiftly followed, but the leak had already piqued the interest of the vigilant Star Wars fans.

The trailer reveals the first details of the game's story and showcases various characters, both familiar faces from the original trilogy and new ones. We follow the protagonist Kay Vess, a smuggler in the vein of Han Solo, getting involved with crime bosses on the farthest border of the Galactic Empire - including Jabba the Hutt. The story is a classic heist. Vess agrees to take on a dangerous mission because she seems to be seeking her freedom, but to do so, she needs to recruit a crew while evading both Stormtroopers and other criminals from the Underworld. Star Wars Outlaws will be set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars Outlaws is a production of Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment studio, the same one behind Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The game will be open-world, leading Kay Vess to various handcrafted planets. Director Julian Gerighty's analogy is that each planet will be the size of two or three zones in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. Ubisoft has already confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws will feature five planets, including Cantonica, Tatooine, and an original one called Toshara.

The gameplay of Star Wars Outlaws will feature elements of third-person shooter, vehicle driving, and robust exploration enriched by a reputation system. Kay Vess can step on the wrong person's toes and attract unwanted attention. If this happens, she can be persecuted and even have her reputation tarnished in some nations. On the other hand, depending on whom the protagonist helps, she can gain benefits.

Star Wars Outlaws arrives on August 30th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Those interested in the game can check out our comparator for the best CD Keys deals on Star Wars Outlaws and visit galaxies far, far away in the shoes of a smuggler.
