Stellar Blade x Nier: Automata crossover annouced

The success of Stellar Blade surprised many, with an estimated over 1 million copies sold in the first two months since its release, and the game's appeal shows no signs of slowing down. Developer Shift Up still has many plans for Stellar Blade, including a PC port and DLC or a sequel, which is still under consideration.

We already knew that Stellar Blade would eventually crossover with other IPs, but the details were unclear. During PlayStation's State of Play event, it was announced that the crossover for Stellar Blade would be with Nier: Automata.

At the end of the trailer, we see 2B standing on a building—though it might actually be Eve dressed in 2B’s outfit, alongside her drone, which has been transformed to look like a Pod from NieR: Automata. We also get a glimpse of the upcoming photo mode features in Stellar Blade, which will allow players to choose poses, gestures, expressions, and filters for Eve and her teammates, offering a customizable photo-taking experience.

Although this collaboration appeared suddenly, it wasn't entirely surprising. Shortly after the announcement, the official Nier: Automata series Twitter account tweeted a congratulatory message about the crossover, humorously stating, "We will gladly say yes to anything for money." If you're a big fan of both Stellar Blade and NieR: Automata, you might already know that the creators of the two games are fans of each other. Stellar Blade's director Kim Hyung-tae has openly expressed his admiration for NieR: Automata, and there are many similarities in Stellar Blade's gameplay. Additionally, Yoko Taro has also highly praised Stellar Blade, saying, "Stellar Blade is such an amazing game, I think it’s much better than NieR: Automata."

The release date for this crossover version is still a mystery, but back in April, Shift Up mentioned that Stellar Blade would collaborate with other major IPs by the end of the year, and one of them is now confirmed to be NieR: Automata. Therefore, it is very likely that the photo mode feature, along with the NieR: Automata crossover, will be launched sometime in November or December of this year. This collaboration is bound to inspire fans of both games to explore each other's titles.
