Street of Rage 4 buffs its characters in a free update

Those that love beat 'em up games had a blast when Street of Rage 4 was launched in April this year. The series has been one of the most recognizable in a genre that has had players spent countless hours playing since quite long ago. When the original Streets of Rage was released on Sega Mega Drive it rapidly became a hit, and it was followed by two other games. After that, the series has been in a long hiatus that has lasted 26 years, but Streets of Rage 4 has managed to resurrect it with a new gameplay style, modern graphics, and a lot of new features. Now, after having sold more than 1,5 million copies of Streets of Rage 4 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch since it was released, developer Dotemu is launching a patch that adds several improvements to the game.

Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert explains it in a statement:

“We couldn’t be happier with the reception of Streets of Rage 4. We thank the fans who have supported the game from day one – a lot of the updates in the patch enhance the replay value for folks who have been with us from the start, additional updates are currently in production and we’ll have more to share on that soon.”

The new patch focuses mainly on fixing small bugs and adding gameplay improvements but it also empowers the abilities of the main characters in the game. Axel will move faster and his recovery speed has been boosted, Cherry's flying punch will make her invincible while she is executing it, and Floyd's special will take less hit points. There are a few other balance changes that you can check in the patch notes. All those changes are aimed at making Streets of Rage 4 gameplay more fluid and stable while reducing latency.
