The Elder Scrolls classic games are free on PC

Some of you may not know it, but Bethesda Softworks is shutting down its launcher. Whether it has to do with Microsoft's purchase of the company or not is of little relevance right now, but it definitely impacts those that were using the launcher to play some of the games. The games that were available via the Bethesda Launcher are now moving to Steam, so you will be forced to use Valve's digital distribution platform to play them.

This may not come as a solution for some players as not everybody likes Steam, but Bethesda has sweetened the deal by making some of the games free. Five classic titles from the developer have been added to Steam, and most of them belong to The Elder Scrolls franchise. You can now find The Elder Scrolls Arena, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard, An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire, and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory on Steam.

Free games

The first two main installments in The Elder Scrolls series are completely free. They are classic games, and graphics are a bit outdated, but they were quite advanced at launch and are the origin of one of the most popular RPG series. The Elder Scrolls really started to shine with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was a hit among the fans of the genre, but The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the game that made the series a complete success. In fact, it's still considered a masterpiece and one of the best role-playing games of all time.

You can also get Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory without paying a dime if you want something different. This multiplayer online shooter set in a World War II scenario offers you a thrilling experience full of action with battles for up to 32 players online.
