The Last Case of Benedict Fox showcases its combat in a new trailer

The publisher Rogue Games - Dust & Neon, Highwater - revealed new combat-focused gameplay of their highly-anticipated action-adventure platformer The Last Case of Benedict Fox during the ID@Xbox Showcase on Twitch. The new combat-focused video shows how to use different attacks, conquer many demons simultaneously, explore the Twilight Zone, and the importance of wit and planning to survive.

This gameplay video walkthrough also shows tools to help traverse the world of Limbo, the importance of using different skills to get past various enemies, and how to engage each of the supernatural factions in unique ways. In the best Metroidvania style, it's up to the player to unlock new means of traveling the game's interconnected world. What's more interesting is observing the player tricking enemies' attacks and watching them hitting themselves. See the video below as Benedict Fox discovers a message from his grandmother that gives clues to his past.

Winner of the Gamescom 2022 Award for "Most Wanted Microsoft Xbox Game," The Last Case of Benedict Fox will run at full 4K and 60 frames per second to bring the nightmarish realm of trauma and tribulations to life. Players will step into gothic-era Boston as the self-proclaimed eponymous detective to experience the deep mauve haze, sinister spires, foreboding footpaths, and unnerving reverberations of Limbo.

The game's official description reads as follows:

Take on the last case of Benedict Fox and dive into a twisted world of secret organizations, forbidden rituals, and cold-blooded murders. Explore the memories of deceased victims as you search for clues and fight demons in this fantastical Lovecraftian Metroidvania.

Metroidvania games usually consist of 2D action-platform games on an entirely connected map. The game provides new abilities or resources to reach previously inaccessible maps at each new stage. Games like Metroid Dread and Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth represents this subgenre well. As Benedict, you will delve further into oblivion in a journey to uncover the truth behind an enigmatic family tragedy while answering to the whims of a demon that possesses his soul. Delve into memories of the dead through a chilling narrative interwoven with exhilarating combat and mind-bending puzzle design. Explore the arcane realms of life and death in the universe of Limbo as far as your psyche will allow, but beware, this case can easily consume you.
