Warcraft franchise along with the Diablo series are the main reasons for the huge success of Blizzard Entertainment as a video game developing company. Warcraft: Humans and Orcs was released in 1994 and since then, Blizzard's popularity skyrocketed to unprecedented heights allowing them to release a couple of sequels that expanded the story and progressively added more features to a trilogy of games that became one of the most important referents in the genre of real-time strategy games. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness and his expansion Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal were followed by the true masterpiece in the series, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, which would also have an expansion called Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. The most relevant thing of all those is that they were the foundation of what's probably one of the most popular games of all time and the one that consolidated Blizzard on the top of the world of video games, their MMORPG World of Warcraft.
It is no surprise then that the announcement of a remastered version of the original Warcraft III was received with a great expectation for the fans of the genre and the series. Warcraft III: Reforged is a complete remaster of the original title, built from scratch with modern graphics and animations. The game was announced during Blizzcon 2018 and since then we have seen some glimpses of gameplay. This version will include the campaign of both Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne expansion, allowing players to follow the story of three of the most important characters in the series: Orc warchief Thrall, Lordaeron prince Arthas Menethil and the leader of the Night Elves, Tyrande Whisperwind. It will also include an editor that will allow players to create their own scenarios.
Warcraft III: Reforged was initially going to be released before the end of 2019 but it seems that Blizzard is missing the mark, and it has announced that the game is now set for release on January 28th in the US and January 29th in Europe.
