The Outlast Trials to release on Early Access

The Outlast Trials to release on Early Access

After a year’s delay, Red Barrels has announced that The Outlast Trials will be coming to Early Access this year. The fourth entry to the Outlast series will launch on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 18, 2023. You can check out the newest The Outlast Trials trailer here:

In this new entry to the series set during the Cold War, players are taken as prisoners and are treated as “human guinea pigs involuntarily recruited by the good folks at the Murkoff Corporation to test advanced methods of brainwashing and mind control.” They must work together to survive a series of horrifying and deadly experiments involving tortured, mutated humans. In a departure from its single-player roots, The Outlast Trials will now have a multiplayer option. Now you and your friends must cooperate and very likely die repeatedly as you try to escape the Murkoff Corporation’s disturbing experiments.

During each trial, you must explore a map to gather information, find items, complete tasks, and evade the grotesque monsters. But it’s not all gloom and doom. The game will also allow you to customize your own character much like an RPG. You can gain perks and skills,  upgrade tools, gain perks, and even decorate your prison cell. And while designed to be cooperative for up to four players, you can also play the game single-player if you have the guts to do so.

While there’s not a lot of information yet on the gameplay, we won’t have much longer to wait till May 18. It’s likely the Early Access version of the game will have limited levels and gameplay and lots of bugs, but getting it early will help developers refine the game before its official release.
