The Settlers delayed after closed beta

The Settlers delayed after closed beta

The long-awaited reboot of Ubisoft’s The Settlers has been delayed—again. Sad news for the fans of this long-running series, but this most recent delay seems to be the direct result of player feedback following the January 20-24 closed beta.

According to the official website:

"As we went through this feedback, it became clear to our team that the quality wasn't yet in line with the team's vision. Therefore, we took the decision to postpone the launch of the game to a later date.

The additional time will be used to further improve the game and push quality as our main priority for all our players. We will keep you updated in due time and give you more details on the next milestones for The Settlers.”

Unfortunately, this leaves The Settlers in limbo as Ubisoft decided against announcing a new launch date.

The Settlers is Ubisoft’s long-running real-time strategy game that started way back in 1993 for the Commodore Amiga. Since then, Ubisoft has released several sequels, including an 8th game in 2014 that never saw completion.

The reboot was first announced back in 2018 for a 2019 release, only to later have the game get pushed back to late 2020. Finally, the game was given a March 17, 2022 release date following the January closed beta. Clearly, things went awry.

Regardless, a working version of the game does exist, and as shown by major releases that had serious problems upon launch, delaying a game can have good effects. As Legend of Zelda’s Shigeru Miyamoto once said: “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.”
