The Witcher 3 is not getting a next-gen version anytime soon

CD Projekt Red is definitely not going through its best moment. The controversial launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has had the studio in the spotlight for a long while. Fixing the game has cost the studio additional time and resources that should have been dedicated to releasing additional content. In the end, Cyberpunk 2077 is not in a bad state now, and it offers quite an exciting experience in a futuristic universe, but the problems have probably affected other areas of development and other games. Nobody really knows what's happening inside the company, but it's quite clear that things are not going as they should. It's the only way of explaining the situation with the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

An unexpected delay

First, CD Projekt Red announced that new versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt specially tailored for the new consoles wouldn't be available in 2021 and revealed that Saber Interactive would take care of it. The launch of the next-gen versions was then slated for the second quarter of 2022, but it seems that the fans will have to wait even longer. The studio has announced via Twitter that an in-house team has taken over the development and that the release is postponed until further notice.

Nothing has been said about the reasons for this change, but it does not make much sense. We all thought that CD Projekt Red would be focusing on creating the recently-announced The Witcher 4, and it's hard to understand why they would want to use resources on a port that someone else was doing already.

The release of the new The Witcher game is still quite far, and there is no doubt that the best option to immerse yourself in Geralt's universe until then is getting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt cheap via our comparator. But in the end, all those last-minute changes may negatively impact the popularity of the Polish company, which has suffered a lot lately due to the poor state of Cyberpunk 2077 at launch.
