The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is experimenting a resurgence in PC, with an increasing number of players that the game has never had before on Steam. That is something quite relevant if you take into account that the role-playing game developed by CD Projekt RED had an impressive list of accolades that includes the Game of the Year award in 2015 among many others. More than 1.5 million people pre-ordered The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the game has been a huge success, with a hefty number of games sold that has surpassed the 20 million copies since it was released.
But it turns out that the recent launch of The Witcher TV series on Netflix has increased the popularity of the game even more. Marcin Momot, the Global Community Lead at CD Projekt RED, has posted on Twitter a screenshot that shows that almost 94,000 players have been playing the game simultaneously on Steam, reaching a peak number that many of the recently released games would want for themselves and that is a record for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on that platform. It is even more remarkable if you consider that the game is four years old already and that those numbers are only related to Steam and do not take into account other platforms like GOG, the shop of the developers of the game.

It is not clear if The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to be the last videogame in the franchise now that Andrzej Sapkowski y CD Projekt RED have put a happy end to their conflict for the rights of The Witcher. The words of Adam Kiciński, President and Joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, seem to indicate that we will see more of Geralt of Rivia adventures in the future, although we don't know in what form.
We’ve always admired Mr. Andrzej Sapkowski’s works — a great inspiration for the team here at CD PROJEKT RED. I believe today marks a new stage in our continued relationship.
Right now, CD Project RED development team has its hands full with the upcoming release of Cyberpunk 2077, which is destined to be one of the most important games of 2020.
