Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands to be turned into a franchise

Who wouldn’t want more Tiny Tina? The explosive little menace turned gamemaster made a huge splash with the hit RPG Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, so Gearbox and 2K Games have decided to raise the stakes. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has recently confirmed during the Embracer Group annual meeting that the Borderlands spin-off will in fact be the beginning of a new franchise.

Despite its bug-filled launch, Wonderlands managed to impress enough fans to warrant more content. Per Randy Pitchford:

“Wonderlands shattered all of our target expectations, both critically and commercially and I'm thrilled to report that in addition to great financial rewards from this victory that will be coming our way in the coming quarters, we have established a firm beachhead, and we now clearly have a new franchise on our hands.”

A spin-off spins a new franchise

A spin-off based on the Borderlands 2 DLC Assault on Dragon Keep, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands became its own thing, mixing elements from tabletop RPGs with Borderland’s FPS mechanics, plus the chaos that only Tiny Tina as the Bunker Master can bring. Wonderlands also featured plenty of talent, including Andy Samberg as Captain Valentine, Wanda Sykes as Frett the robot, and Will Arnett as the big bad Dragon Lord. The game already has several DLCs from its Season Pass, a bundle that provides new items, challenges, locations, and enemies. The latest DLC is Shattering Spectreglass, which launched just this August.

What’s next for Tiny Tina? No one knows just yet; the Embracer Group has yet to specify what they plan for the future: it could be either new games, new DLCs, or even both.
