It seems that the projects launched by Rayman's father are not very popular these last years. For a year now, several twists and turns have come to put a damper on Michel Ancel's two games that are currently in development, Beyond Good and Evil 2 and WiLD. And it is mainly the second one that will interest us today because new rumors about WiLD have recently emerged.
In 2014, we discovered the existence of WiLD during the Gamescom and Sony's conference. Michel Ancel's new game is developed not by Ubisoft but by an independent studio, Wild Sheep studios. The game was presented as a kind of action-adventure that plunges the player into the heart of a primitive world full of wildlife, where hunting, gathering, shamanism, and the interactions with the fauna seem to be the rule. We also were able to discover some WiLD gameplay footage that looked quite appealing.
However, the communication about what's going on with the game is far from being fluid, as it happens with Beyond Good and Evil 2. Ubisoft recently reaffirmed that the game was still in development despite the absence of information for about a year. There's been nothing solid about WiLD for several years now, and the latest rumors speak of a pure and simple cancellation of the game.
Jeff Grubb brought up the subject during an interview on Giant Bomb. The insider also tweeted that the teams have not been working on the game since 2020. Of course, we have to take all this with a pinch of salt, as no official source has confirmed the cancellation of the PlayStation-exclusive game. With several years lacking any information about the game and Michel Ancel's departure from the video game industry, there is reason to be pessimistic about the future of WiLD.
