Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus shows us a world where the Nazis took over everything, and now America is under the control of the enemy. BJ Blazkowicz woke up only to discover that his partner is pregnant with twins, but his home country is now under the control of the enemy that he fought against so hard in Wolfenstein: The New Order. In the Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – Gunning For Freedom video, the developers shared their thought process behind the game's creation and what feelings they want to awake inside the player as they play the game. But, the developers don't the game to be just about shooting Nazis, they want you to have a good reason to, and the story of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will give you all the reasons to fight to liberate your country and set America free from the Nazi grip. Senior Game Designer Arcade Berg said:
“What really puts MachineGames on the map is that while we’re making really strong narrative games, we give enough room to have the proper gameplay experience,” “It’s not that one is overpowering the other.”
They want you to be driven by your own emotions, and every time you blow your enemy to pieces, you will have a strong incentive to do so. That's the whole point, you have to form alliances with all sorts of rebel groups in order to defeat an enemy with more resources and more firepower than you. Creative Director Jens Matthies thinks that it's very important for the players to be invested in what they're doing, as he stated:
“No matter how crazy things get, you are always emotionally invested in what you’re doing,” “For this game, our theme was “For this game, our theme was catharsis. So at the end of it, I think you will be ready to go out on the streets and start a revolution.”
