Wolverine pops his claws in Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Everyone wants to play Wolverine. From the Capcom fighting games to the upcoming Wolverine standalone game, Marvel’s most famous Canadian is still the best there is at what he does. And now, he’s got a character showcase for the upcoming Marvel’s Midnight Suns by XCOM developer Firaxis. Check out his six minutes of gameplay in this video:

Mutant Berseker

We’ve previously introduced such heroes as the mystical Dr. Strange and cosmic powerhouse Captain Marvel. Wolverine, who also goes by Logan or James Howlett, performs a different role: he is a Tank by virtue of his indestructible adamantium skeleton. He also can self-heal during combat, keeping him in the fight longer. If he dies, he can revive himself once per combat. You can hardly ask for a better Tank—just have him attract enemy fire with his Taunt ability and have your more fragile characters mop up the enemies.

Claws Out

There’s more to Wolverine than soaking up damage, however. He can chain combos and rack up distributed damage using his adamantium claws. The video goes through various cards he can use, including one that delivers a full combo, punishing either a group of foes or a single target.

To keep things interesting, Wolverine will be going up against one of his archenemies, a demonically possessed Sabretooth, who joined Lilith’s army.

Of course, like the rest of the Marvel roster, you can always hang out with Logan at your home base, the Abbey, when not on a mission. Given it’s Logan, your extracurricular activities may involve copious amounts of alcohol.

Sadly, it will be a bit of a wait until we meet Wolverine and the rest of the team. Marvel’s Midnight Suns has been delayed from its October launch date to some time before the end of publisher 2K Games' fiscal year, which is March 31, 2023.
